Do I have to convert my AVI type movies ?

Do I need to convert the AVI to VCD in order to play on a stand alone DVD player that supports CDR/CDRW media?
They play in the CD drive on my comp(obviously lol), also play using the DVD on my comp. I would like to purchase a DVD player so we can watch them NOT huddled around the monitor . Will wait on the purchase if I need to learn to convert my media first, but do not want to convert if I dont have to. And if I do, whats the best program to learn with? THANKS!

oh and not sure if it matters, but these were burned in my CDR as "Data" disks, not music or media.[img][/img]

It sounds like yor DVD standalone is not capable of playing VCD's?
if it is...then check out the help section to the left of this page .They are very helpful.Look at "How To Author"
