  1. On sites like Youtube it frequently askeds to install Adobe flash, to view videos but even after installing it, I show a red x (or unable to play video). Is there something wrong or do I have to somehow "turn it on"?

Do you have Javascript disabled in your browser? If you're using Firefox with NoScript, for example, it'll automatically block (or try to) JavaScript and Flash unless you whitelist the site.

  3. I am using IE8. Firefox works, but IE8 doesnt.

"Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)" is CHECKED. Is that it?

As far as I know, it isn't. Unfortunately, I don't use IE, so I don't really know how to disable/re-enable Javascript in IE.

You did make sure to install the IE-specific version of Flash 10, right?
Do you have Quicktime installed? QT seemed intent on grabbing the MIME-type and such for Flash/FLV as well, before.
