Hi,
I'm having some issues burning on my Tsst Corp HS-553A burner (Samsung branded drive shipped with Dell).
I've not had too many problems in the past but all of a sudden my discs are not burning (I have been getting 'could not perform start of disc-at-once') or they burn successfully then when I insert the disc it reads as a blank. I am buning DVD+R dual layers at 2.4 speed. I have also tried re-writeable +RW and these also come out blank.
Is it time to purchase a new burner?
Thanks in advance,
Rob.

A few questions, what brand discs are you using?
What burning program are you using? I suggest ImgBurn. If you use it, it will generate a log file you can post here that may help with determining the problem.
Does it burn CDs properly? Many times CD burning works and DVDs don't. That can be a sign that the DVD laser is dying. But you would usually get a 'Power calibration' error with that.
And this isn't a DVD recorder question. Moving you to DVD & Blu-ray Writers Forum. -
Thnaks for the reply.
The discs I am using are Aone Printable. I have used them in the past without problems. I have tried Nero 8, ImgBurna and ImgToolBurn - all fail.
I am just going to try the discs on my laptop and I'll report back. If they burn successfully I guess the drive is at fault.

My TssT Corp drive is now unable to read any DVD's (blank or otherwise). Audio CD's are read and can be played though.
It would seem that the drive is on it's last legs. I just ordered a new Lite-On.
