  1. Does anyone of any DVD Burning software that will let me burn/output the VIDEO_TS folder of a backed-up disc to a hard drive.

When I burn the files to a DVD I get strange behaviour with the chapters so I want to 'burn' the same disc to my hard drive to see if an error occured during back-up or during the burning process to the DVD media.

    Thank in advance.

If the VIDEO_TS folder is on your hard drive....that is "burned" to the hard drive.

  3. If I play the original backed-up VIDEO_TS folder there is no problem with the chapters. So either the software used to burn the disc is creating the error or the disc/media is.

Rather than create 20 coasters trying other software I wanted to 'burn' the disc to my drive to identify the problem.

Your theory will NOT identify the problem. A HDD is a disk. A DVD is a disk. If there are issues on the DVD disk then it is either the media itself - use branded media not cheap stuff - or the burning software - use imgburn to burn the video_ts folder from your HDD

"Layer break" means you are burning to DL media. You should be aware that the odds are that you pissed your money down the toilet with whatever discs you bought. We recommend only Verbatim DVD+R DL discs around here for DL media. If you must use DVD-R DL (why?) then either buy Verbatim or pay a fortune for Taiyo Yuden's DVD-R DL discs - if you can find them. Anything else is junk. Most newbies just buy whatever DL discs they can find on sale or whatever their nearby store happens to carry and then they come posting here about various problem. If you bought a non-Verbatim disc then burn it as slow as you can (no faster than 2.4x) with ImgBurn and hope for the best. And don't buy that type of DL disc again.

By the way, Nero is infamous for layer break issues with DL media, in particular with DVD-R DL media because DVD-R DL media requires special work for the layer break that DVD+R DL does not require. I know that a few years ago Nero was absolutely unable to correctly burn DVD-R DL discs. I do not know if it ever got fixed.

  8. The discs I am using are DATAWRITE DVD+R DL.

I used imgburn as suggested and I changed the layer break from the "excellent" to "good" option. I burnt the resulting image and now the disc plays perfectly with no problems with the chapters.

99% of the time I use Nero to burn DL discs and they burn without any problems at max speed.

    Thanks for your help!
