    Hello

I have connected a DVD Home Theatre System to the TV. The surround sound system works however after connecting the new DVD to the TV the screen appears as black and white and not colour. What can I do to get it to colour.

    Help is greatly appreciated

Make sure that you have the cables in the right ports (basic, I know, but often missed) and that you have the output of the player set to component on the internal menu.

    about the cables

The one the dvd have symbols R for red and L for white and Yellow is CVBS

on the TV it has the same symbals of colours except the yellow has a different symbal which is Y

and how do check if the output of the player set to component on the internal menu.

    Common mistake.
The red and white are AUDIO....and the yellow is composite video.

Are you confusing Composite with Component?

  9. You run the yellow (composite) output from the DVD player to a yellow connector on your TV. Then you run the red and white outputs to the red and white audio inputs on the TV.

Running the yellow cable from the DVD player to the Y input of the component section of the HDTV will give you exactly what you see -- grayscale video.

Component video connectors are usually green, blue, and red. Which is unfortunate because people get them confused with RGB video. In a pinch you can try using composite A/V cable (yellow, red, white) but they may not have sufficient bandwidth to carry high definition component (YUV) video. It's best to use real high definition component video cables. You're also less likely to get the connections confused since the colors on the cables match the colors on the devices.
