    I want to convert a dvd concert to an audio cd that I can play in my car.
    Using free software, what is the best way to achieve this?

    If the DVD is not encrypted (or you make it so) Xvid4PSP works great. Set the Format to 'Audio' and choose from any of the offerings you require. Mp3, PCM etc. And as t0nee1 noted splits etc can be done with Audacity.
