I've been toying around with finding the "optimal" settings for MPC-HC after reading the guide on how to enable GPU acceleration several months ago. Well I finally realized I had to use MPC's internal filters/decoders for that to work, so now I'm trying to take ALL the stress off my CPU for video playback.

The one situation I find kind of tricky is playing back an M2TS file with VC-1 encoded video... I only have 3 or 4 such files and when I open them, it's all pixelated. I pull the same streams into an MKV and it plays just fine - complete with 0-2% CPU utilization.

So I kept playing around with the filters, handing over the splitting of TS files to Haali (while still allowing MPC to decode) seems to solve this, but I'm left wondering if there's an "internal" solution (seeing as how you don't really "need" any other software for playback once you've got MPC).

I'd also like to note I know it's better to stick with MKV - I'm just looking for an answer in the cases where I'm trying to play an AVCHD or BD and I don't want to have to deal with remuxing.

The MPC splitters for MKV and MP4 files still are inferior to Haali's one.
It seems improbable that the MPC development team will feel like fixing
these and other issues very soon.

Fair enough - I'll take GPU acceleration over a better media splitter.

I checked out the change log for Haali and found this:

"Fixed handling of VC-1 with changing sequence headers in PS and TS containers"

I'm not sure it that would fix the issue with MPC's internal splitter, but it might explain why this works with Haali.
