A *guess* would be because MPC uses files/apps/DS filters etc *outside* MPC, while VLC & your PS3 do not. Maybe MPC is using something that you've installed, & it doesn't like those files, or it loads a different combo of DS filters with the different files or something similar? 2 different troubleshooting paths I might use would be 1) using a process monitor to see if there was a difference in what loaded between the files, &/or trying to force MPC not to use 1 or more filters [by renaming files etc], &/or 2) look at the files themselves to see if they were bad somehow -- it would not be *that* unusual if a portion of the file was damaged, which many players & some DS filters/apps will ignore. In cases with files that were damaged I often start by taking a small section of the file & seeing if that played - if so then I try to find the bad section(s) & either cut them out or replace them - if not I try without audio. Sometimes I wind up re-encoding the file - many times it makes more sense to just re-encode, since diagnosing the prob can take 3 X the time to re-encode, if not longer. But that's just me -- there are much smarter, more experienced people than me & maybe one of them will post a better answer?

  3. Try (re)installing Haali. In AviSynth try using DSS2() instead of DirectShowSource(). DSS2() comes with Haali as avss.dll.
