  1. I have several movie's that are in avi format. The quality is not much to be desired for.

Here are the specs: width: 352
    height: 208
    bit rate: 96kbps
    audio format: Mpeg-layer3
    framerate: 20fps
    data rare: 61kbps

If i changed the format to DivX, then could i possibly adjust framerate, data rate with some other program to improve quality? Any suggestions for better fidelity? Thank you

  2. try converting into mpg with Tmpgenc , then use king vipers template for svcd also in Tmpgenc, then create a bin and cue file with vcdeasy, then use nero to burn the image..

<------------- the guides to doing that are to the left and the template is in the tools section.

  3. You cannot improve video quality. Trash in = Trash out.

  4. you'll need to see what video compression codec you are using. using the divx codec gives you pretty poor quality. you will need to probably use the huffy or picvideos mjpeg codec. using the huffy codec produces a very big file size which is why i prefer to use picvideo's mjpeg codec and use a mjpeg setting of 18.

you may also try to capture at a higher vertical resolution. i read somewhere the higher the vertical resolution the better...something to do with how tv's display pictures based on the vertical resolution...i use 352x576 but the best thing to do is to capture at a few different resolution settings and pick which one works best for u...

if on the other hand you're not capturing anything and these happen to be AVI files you get from other ppl then its like what the previous post said "trash in = trash out"...the quality is pretty much dependent on the original avi capture in this case....
