I have a 5.7 GB video (in a VIDEO_TS folder on hard disk) which I would like to shrink to fit on a DVD5. I tried DVD Shrink 3.2 but it tells me "DVD is too big ..., make sure to set compression to automatic" (which it was set to from the beginning). Any advice appreciated. Leo

  2. Hit the analyze button and it should make it to where it will fit.

Hitting the Analyze button gives "Analysis of this DVD is not necessary, because either no compression was applied, or the compressed parts have already been fully analyzed". When I do Backup ... continue anyway, encoding is done but with zero compression. Could the fact that this is a folder on the harddisk and not a DVD be the problem?

Run the dvd folder through fixvts and then try to shrink.

If that still fails, give DVD Rebuilder a try.

DVD Rebuilder says: "Error. Illegal video GOP size. Possibly encrypted source. Aborted." Same result with the original source and after running it through fixvts. And DVD Shrink still produces a noncompressed .iso file.
    Thank you for your time.

How did you rip the file in the first place ? It sounds like it was not ripped properly, and the copy protection is still in place.

Go back to the original and re-rip it correctly.

This is a backup of a DVD which I made a year ago. Unfortunately I don't remember how I ripped it then. The original is not available any longer since my five year old has trashed it.
Alternatively I still have two files, .i00 and .i01 of the movie, but no idea how I might proceed these to restore the movie. Thanks again for listening, Leo

Without the original to re-rip I don't think there is much you can do.

Do you also have a .mds file ? It should have been created at the same time as the .i00/.01 file.

If so, use the File -> Open Disc Image option in DVD Shrink and see if you can open the image. If you don't have the .mds file then I suspect you are SOOL.

(This also assumes the image files you have contain the entire disc. You don't say how big they are)

I do have the .mds file. DVD Shrink tells me "Error ... Failed to open file <path>\*.i00" (Path is correct though). The image files are 4 and 2 GB, so should contain the entire disc.
Looks like something has gone awry. So let's go buy the disk again.
Thanks to both of you for your help.
