I do NOT have a double layered DVD Burner, and I had downloaded a Video in an .ISO format and the size of it is 7.14 G.

My question is can I use DVD shrink and shrink it down to a DVD-5 [ 4.70 g] or Am I just pushing my luck...Thanks[

That is kind of what DVD Shrink was made to do, hence the name. Of course, there are other factors, and sometimes DVD Shrink cannot do it all in one pass, or sometimes it affects the quality a lot.

You do have several options though. One is DVD Shrink's re-author mode, which allows you to shed extras, languages etc that you don't need, and have just the main feature. Sometimes this is enough to get the size down to a single disc without the need to actually shrink the movie.

If you do want to keep everything, the free DVD Rebuilder can re-encode with a high quality encoder and often produces better results than DVD Shrink (albeit with a much longer encoding time) when the reduction is large.

It is a little sad and very scary that someone who joined almost three years ago would ask such a basic newbie question though

Thanks..I did experiment with a 5.14 G, and I had to do it twice as U said, DVD Shrink, sometimes CANNOT do it in 1 Pass. It seem okay with the quality, BUT with a size of 7.14 G, that is why I ask the question?

I think I am going to ReAuthor & trim off as much of the Video, with just the Main Infrastructure intact. and see how much I end up with in Size.

Thanks again, U guys are great as usual. Appreciate the Help.

Use DVD Rebuilder, not shrink, for this.

  5. If you are a quality fan like me, don't ever transform DVD-9 to DVD-5. The quality loss is very noticeable (at least for me).

What I usually do is burn two DVD-5 medias for a single DVD-9 movie.

LS has it right - Rebuilder can reduce a 9 to a 5 and maintain quality. It even includes all the stuff to do it for free (unless you want a faster encoder).

JDobbs is my hero for that program.

Go to Half D1 to maintain quality.

File size is not the most relevant factor here - what is the running time of the video in question ?

I agree ... how long is the actual movie ... do you really need to keep the trailers and the added features.

CloneDVD ... for me ... does a good job of helping a person decide what parts of a DVD disk to keep. I usually remove all the trailers. But I do keep the stuff about ... why the movie was made ... where the movie was filmed at ... stuff like that.

After I have trimmed the fat off with CloneDVD ... then I use DVD Rebuilder Pro [I bought it when it was $10 bucks] ... with the CinemaCraft encoder to do this.

I have Cinema Craft Encoder SP v2.70 ... and Cinema Craft Encoder SP 2.50 .... to choose from.

If the movie is super long ... I will do more than 4 passes .... and I do use the option to steal quality from the "extras" to improve the actual movie itself.

I have DVD Shrink ... and sometimes I will use it. I also use ... CyberLink PowerDVD Copy v1.0.0625 Final [with the update patch] ... once in awhile.
