    Hi!:

I have some NTSC vids that are letterboxed in 4:3 (widescreen of course). What I want to do is to make them anamorphic 16:9 (without the bars of course) without reconverting the video... you know, quality loss issues.

I want to know if there is a trick or something to do this!!!

    Thanks in advance!!!.

  2. You can have them play the way you want in a software player. To make the change permanent, though, you'll have to reencode.

Those black bars on the 4:3 video are actually part of the video. You can't remove those without cropping, resizing, and re-encoding. Sorry.

Yeap, for a permanent solution, re-encoding is necessary!
That also might need an up-converting to fill the missing lines (for mpeg 2 DVD convertion). A nice way to do this, is by using Deemon's Video Enhancer

The software way, you might be able to crop the black bars realtime, using ffdshow by activating the cropping filter and watching on VLC, MPC or the players that based on them..
