  1. I installed a program called alienGUIse that changes the theme for vista and xp. I use windows 7 and made a gamble on trying it. Next thing I knew, I couldn't restore the original icons for folders and all my shortcuts had no arrows (instead, it came out with a picture of a cd and a box). To make thing worse the icon for drive d had a red X mark on it.

    PLEASE HELP

For starters, did you try a system restore ??

  3. That's the last thing I would ever resort to because I haven't backed up all my files yet.

  4. A system restore won't harm any of your files. Primarily it resets registry keys and start up items to a working configuration from the restore.
    Usually.
