I've been emailing Sefy about this, but not sure I've figured out the problem. I've successfully ripped 100s of DVDs without a hitch using Smartripper, DVD2AVI, Tmpgenc, and Nero and I use pretty much the same routine each time, right? Well recently on two movies (Oceans 11-the original, and The Dirty Dozen), after I encoded, the audio and video were WAY OFF. Hard to tell, but at least 30-60 seconds off, perhaps more . What's more weird is that I can play back the raw .vob files using my DVD player's software and it's also WAY OFF. It's almost like the Audio and/or Video begin at different times in the .vob files making it impossible to sync up when I rip it. You would think that playing the raw .vob files (which work perfectly on every other movie) would not be a problem area? Also of note, these movies seem to have an opening sequence that looks like a "behind the scenes" or perhaps bonus material VIDEO with the actual movie's AUDIO. It's like I'm watching a bonus section and listening to the actual movie. Does this make sense? My DVD player plays the movie just fine, it's only when I rip the data off that things screw up. It's the only thing that seems to be consistent from the two movies in question.
Not sure if I need to use a different ripper program, or perhaps a special setting? Weird, I hope one of you have encountered this and have a solution.

  2. I have not encountered such a thing as of yet, when you rip the movie, you do select movie and not backup or files, right ?
and if you play the DVD on the PC using WinDVD or PowerDVD, the movie plays accuratly ?

  5. vesterlee, i ripped KOD with no problem.....

like sefy sez, if there's multi-angle or seamless branching at the beginning of the vob files, you might get the outta sync you are talking about. u need to rip those movies in "movie mode" in smartripper or enable "multi-angle processing" in dvddecryptor

Hello, I have a simliar problem. I have all the tools tomselina has and I followed Sefy's saying about ripping it in the Movie mode. I'm trying to make a backup copy of a DVD called Tenchi Muyo In Love. But I have found some odd things while I was doing this. First is when I tried to play the vts_01_1.vob in PowerDVD there is no sound but when I play the other vob files they have sound. Then when I encode it in DVD2AVI, the wav file is always comes out as 384Kbps 48KHz instead of 224Kbps 48KHz. I'm just baffled.

By the way how do you get the subtitles in the DVD in my VCD anyways?

  8. that's only the naming convention of the .wav dvd2avi outputs(reference to the original ac3 properties). you need to encode the uncompressed pcm(.wav) to mpeg1 layer2(.mp2)

Just to clear up, so I use DVD2AVI and encode the uncompressed pcm to mp2? How woould I do that?

  10. When you use the WAV file in TMPGEnc to encode your movie, it already does the conversion from WAV to MP2 in standard format, you don't need to do anything else.

  12. If your sync is constant (1sec / 2 sec ..) during the entire movie, you can use the Source Range to correct the Audio Gap.

  14. Is it a constant 20sec gap throughout the whole movie ?

Yes, in the beginning of the movie it's showing the credits of the companies that help produce the movie but the audio is 20 secs ahead. So the audio is 20 secs off sync to the video, that's what I mean.

  16. Actually what I ment was if the 20 sec sync is the same in the whole movie, if it is, you can fix that by using the Source Range and setting the Audio Gap by either -20 or just 20, do a 5 min enocde to see which worked for you.

Cool thx it worked. Gah but I got another problem now. You know in your guide you said to set the audio in DVD2AVi for 224kBits, for some odd reasoin when I finish framing it the audio always comes out as 380kBits. Why does it do that?

  18. I'm glad to hear the problem is solved!
Regarding you question, if you are referring to the file name you get when using TMPGEnc, then dont' worry about it, it is just the details of the original track, when you encode using TMPGEnc, it will always be 224k.
