How do I re-install over an existing OS?
The drive is free from any other software or data.
Thanks

"You have not because you ask not"
James 4:3 -
First, you need the standalone XP disk (I assume that you are running XP); do not use a restore disk or you will wipe all your data & programs. Boot from the CD; XP will ask you if you want to repair your existing installation using the Repair Consol, or Perform a new installation. Choose the NEW INSTALLATION, not the repair consol. In the next screen, you will be asked if you wish to do a clean install, or a repair reinstall. Choose REPAIR REINSTALL, do not choose Clean Install or you will lose all data. After that it is a matter of waiting. Oh -one thing - the computer will auto reboot itself a couple of times during the installation; it will briefly flash the message, "Press Any Key To Boot From CD". Do NOT press the key, you will start the install all over again and create a disaster. I don't know why Microsoft did that, but its a land mine. Using this method will preserve your data and programs, and just overwrite the system files. Oh - and have your key number ready, you will be asked for it.
