  1. Hi guys

I've got a couple of discs that look to me like mini DVDs - the type that used to go in Sony camcorders. It says on it "Sony DVD-RW 1.4GB".

However I have been told by the person who gave them to me they are "minidiscs"

I've never come across a mini disc, but from what I've read of them they don't use mini DVDs so I don't think that can be it (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Putting them in the computer (LG Blu-ray burner), they won't be read, and comes up with the message "drive is not accessible. Incorrect function".

There is definitely recording on them, I can see the burn on the back but I can't understand why they can't be read...could it be that the disc hasn't been closed and so only the camcorder that took it can read it, or does Windows need additional drivers etc. to be able to read the small size DVDs?

Any help would be most appreciated!

    Many thanks

They are DVDs, but with a smaller physical size and capacity. They are generally used by video cameras that record directly to DVD, although they can also be used in a normal burner for storage.

What you are experiencing sounds a lot like what happens if a disc is recorded to in a camera, but not finalised in the same camera before being handed on. You need to get the person who recorded on these discs to finalise them in the camera, then you should be able to read them.

  3. you can also try the program ISObuster and see if you can take the content off of that unfinalised disc
