I've always said this of Luigi - that he represents the "Sideline Male" or "Beta Male". He's the guy that sits on the sidelines while watching the "Alpha Males", like Mario, get the ladies.

He's her "friend". He gets to hear all the wonderful things she's doing with other guys except him - all while she drags him along tortuously through hours and hours of her shoe shopping. He also gets to be the emotional tampon - the guy that listens as she's hurt by Mario. He takes care of her in the meantime by being that wonderful listener, making her smile and even fixing her trash disposer, then his heart is once more shattered when she runs off with Mario again after she used him to restore herself during her bad period.

She always returns to him when she needs a friend again however. And then he gets to hear all the wonderful she's doing with ... etc, etc, ...

He's trapped in a viscous cycle much like the computer repair guy, the amateur comedian or the Emo guy.

I feel for poor Luigi.
