Well I finally got around to doing a full backup on my main computer. It only took about an hour and a half. I did it to an external harddrive using norton save and restore 2.0. (my last FULL backup was almost exactly a year ago).

I've been careful about backing up my family photos to the computer from the camera memory card and then straight to dvdr. But now I have more peace of mind getting the whole thing onto a harddrive.

I have another computer I should backup someday but I don't have any really vital files on it. Its more of a media computer that I don't use for serious work. So if it were to totally fry I wouldn't be in any true hardship just inconvenienced.

I also took the time to backup my music files a month or two ago. A lot were simply cd rips that I still have the original cds of. And I had burned a lot of those to disc a few years ago anyway (the rips that is). But now I have more reassurance in case of failure. After all my computer is from 2004 or so. But it is hardly stock anymore. The harddrive I'm using now is already a replacement so it is newer than the machine itself.

How often do you backup your computer?

    Full backups twice per year.
    Incremental data backups monthly.
    Email weekly.
    Databases daily.

I also regularly rip installer CDs/DVDs to hard drive ISO or CUE/BIN.
Rare DVD videos also ripped to ISO.
That's done on demand, as needed.

Some content is on a RAID-1 mirror, for drive failsafe. Photos, mostly.
