When I play an exported MPEG file or DVD authored by MVW-DVD (Womble's "MPEG Video Wizard - DVD"), the text in the titles (white text on black background) generated in MVW-DVD flickers greatly when played, for example, on Windows Media Player (11).

Those same titles also flicker when a DVD authored by MVW-DVD plays on standalone DVD players.

However, when I import and play those same (exported) MPEG files on the MVW-DVD monitors, the text in those titles do not flicker.

I tried reproducing those titles in a separate graphics application and imported them into MVW-DVD as image files, but those too flickered when exported as an MPEG file and played outside of MVW-DVD (on Windows Media Player).

Can I eliminate this title-flickering somehow?

Update: the same DVD as described above exhibits flickering (and degraded) titles on some computer and standalone DVD players and doesn't flicker or degrade on others.

What on the DVD could be causing this inconsistency in performance and can it be fixed? Thanks.

  3. High contrast, sharp, horizontal edges, will flicker on interlaced displays and usually on progressive displays when deinterlacing interlaced material. Thinks you can do to reduce the flickering: use lower contrast, use less sharp (antialiased) text, use a deflicker filter, use text without serifs, use bigger text, etc.
