Am using Convert X to DVD as atrial version after some recommendations on this site - Just in relation to this, having cleared adequate HD space I now have tried the trial version of ConvertX to DVD. Problem is, the conversion part took forever (around 4 hrs!) and then when it came to burning the message came up pls put in a blank writable DVD. Tried 3 single layer then 1 dual layer discs - didn't work. It created the folder i.e. the VOB files etc (not sure that my laptop could read them so I think I read them from the ISO files) but it just wouldn't read them, even when I pressed cancel and then instructed it from the main menu 'actions' tab. I was aware that it would put the watermark in the trial version and that's ok but I'm reluctant to pay for the product if it's this slow or unresponsive when burning - any help/advice?
Does nyone have the full version software too? Just want to know if I'll get those glitches with the paid version?
Also the following problem has been going on for a while, in the new year I'm determined to sort it out. I made a film which I had converted from VHS to DVD. I wanted to post it on youtube and got this response from them.
"Thanks for your email! There are far too many variables in that kind of
conversion for me to be able to give you exact directions. I would
recommend searching around on the web for things like "DVD to AVI". You
should find a number of websites with good information and walkthroughs to
get you started. We recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid, SQV3) format at
320x240 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these
specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on
YouTube."
Anyone know the best program again for this and do utube still have a limit on how long your videos can be? Mine's 1/2 an hour so may need to split it. A definitive answer would make my day. If needs be I'll post it up on the main section dedicated to Utube.
Cheers all

If you just have a 1.2ghz cpu it will take forever to convert. I haven't had problems with the trial or full version...but then I burn using ImgBurn instead. Another option would be to try free DVD Flick.
Convert your dvd to avi using autogk or handbrake or xvid4psp. Use xvid video and mp3 audio. The last time I uploaded something to youtube it had a 10 minute limit but it was a year ago....go to youtube and read HELP, FAQ. -
Burn problems are very often the result of crappy media. And sadly, most of what's commonly available is crap. If you aren't using Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden, expect trouble more often than not.
ImgBurn will create properly formatted images to burn. If you still have no joy, it's the media (or possibly the burner itself). Throw away the budget spindles from Office Max, get the good stuff, and save yourself tons of trouble. -
Set the conversion to best quality, medium quality is pretty poor, regardless what they say on their FAQs. And you can safely increase the burn size to 4450 and squeeze that tiny bit more out of the quality
I used to take 3-4 hours per AVI to DVD, now my Q6600 it takes about 11 minutes ...... things have progressed quite a bit with CPU speeds !
Converting a full sized HD MKV to DVD, from a blu-ray source still takes anything upto 2 hours even with my Q6600, it has a lot of work to do in converting that high quality MKV 1920x1080 to DVD specs of 720x576/480, but the final quality is very very high
Burn quality with the latest v3.xx releases is much better than they used to be. I used to get nothing but problems when it did recognize the DVD in my standalone player, when burnt using their own burner but zero problems when I used IMGBurn, but since v3.xx things are much better
Same media, same DVD player, so I assume they have changed or rewote the burning engine
