    I have a avi file that is about 1.3g its about 15 min what is the most effective way to compress it for upload to the internet?

    Re-encode it with a much lower bitrate.

    like guns1inger said, encode at a much lower bitrate...i say 15 minutes of video into avi at about 100mb or smaller should be fine...
