    Hello All,

I have a large number of DVDs which I'm needing to convert to FLV or to MP4 to be played in the FLVPlayback component of Flash. I have tried VOB2MPG tool and it's the fastest program I've found but it's not got a compatible output.

Is there a way to get VOB2MPG to output FLV/MP4 files while keeping the super fast speed or is there another way?

    Thanks
    Anubis.

    slanubis,

If you want FLV/MP4 output you'll need another tool. The only thing VOB2MPG does is, well, take the MPEG2 (and audio) out of the VOB container. There's no real conversion being done...
    Have a good one,

AVS Video Converter does a good job. It is not a free program as is implied on their download page.
Go to the Registration tab for pricing information

Handbrake or Xvid4psp. Click on them for guides. Both supports dvd and vob input. And BOTH ARE FREEE. But probably slowest if you want high quality mp4 h264. .

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. I've now tried about 20 or 30 different encoding programs and as Baldrick mentioned, Handbrake and Xvid4PSP were the better of the two. Xvid4PSP has a bit more that needs to be entered for each encoding but Handbrake's encoding time was much longer.

I'll run some more tests between these two programs but it'll be one of these two which wins at the end of the day.

    Thanks
    Anubis.

    slanubis,

Those tools use the same encoder under the covers. If there are any noticable differences, chances are there will be setttings that are setup differenently between the two. This could be anything from default bitrate/size, x pass vs quality based, filters, source - temp - destination drives (hopefully they're different) .... and so on.

I'd pick the one that follows your usual methods the closest. I ended up with Xvid4PSP. Others like Handbrake...
