Previewing the latest... OMG now it wants to do EVERYTHING.

I just want a powerful burner, that's ALL I need, a burner, not movie editing, no sound, no video, JUST A %&^#$ powerful burner.

Anybody here use a SIMPLER alternative? Got to be able to burn CD/DVD boot-able discs.

I'll second Dv8ted2's recommendation -- ImgBurn is the last word in burning software -- but I
think Nero still has its uses. As best I'm aware, the carping about Nero really began with ver. 7, and never really let up. (Creeping bloatware only moves in one direction, once it sets in . . . . )
I still run Nero 6.3 and 6.6, one of which is the full-suite and the other a stripped-down, comes-free-with-the-burner version. They still work just fine, and provide all I ever need out of Nero.

People, don't let the software vendors herd you like sheep: JUST SAY NO to a lot of these
    unnecessary "updates" !

Incidentally, there are a few sites on the web devoted to older versions of programs, and some
devoted to "abandonware." I can't speak to the legal or copyright issues involved -- you'll have
to do your own research on a case by case basis. (But I think there will be a range of answers
on that, depending on the program and the developer.) You can start here:

    http://www.oldversion.com/
http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/ (a not well organized site, no Search bar)
    and more specifically here
    http://www.oldapps.com/nero.php?old_nero=1

The last one mentions some forums, where you could likely get more info.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

  5. If you want to use just the burning functionality of Nero, select Nero Express. I use it for music cd's and for dvd's, I use Imgburn.

  8. I also recommend ImgBurn but even it is getting bloated, the simplest burn program is Burnatonce but it's no longer updated.

In what way is ImgBurn getting bloated? What does it do that is not directly related to burning?

I'm also weaning off nero. While I do use BR my main app in the suite is Vision. I'm considering moving to ConvertXtoDVD. CX is almost there in features compared to Vision. Still a little clunky but functional.

You are absolutely right about the bloatware. I use BR and Vision - that's it.

Hell, if you have a nero vision project that was saved in 9.0 and attempt to open in 9.2.x - you can't. I emailed tech support: their answer was to reinstall 9.0. Wow.

    Their tech support really sux.

In the last three updates LUK has added audio CD burning and other features which I don't need,I just want a program that will burn ISO and data.
I appreciate the fine work LUK has done with his programs but I think he's going down the Nero road which I stopped using at v6.6.

I think the addition of AudioCD burning was a direct result of user requests and you can't fault him for responding to his clientele. While I understand not needing the AudioCD feature, it's still within the primary function (burning discs) and IMO shouldn't be considered bloat. But we'll have to wait and see if LUK will stop there or has stepped on that slippery slope.

Lets see, imgburn is at a hefty 2mb when install and only features that are requested by users are added and its free, sure don't seem like it's any way being like nero.

I have a low opinion of Nero. There are better solutions for any of its functions as mentioned above. With that said, if you choose to install Nero for a subset of its features, you can custom install and select only the modules that you want to install.
