  1. Hi,

I bought a PAL DVD of a Soviet-era film, and noticed some frame blending, sporadically in stretches.

Attached is a clip as an example.

    Frames 0-52: no blending
    Frames 53-120: blending

Does anyone know why these frames are blended? Is there a mistake, or is there some other reason?

I just find it a little sad, because IMHO the film quality is otherwise decent, and the blending takes away from it.

Thanks, I am just really curious.

  2. It was deinterlaced. Both fields of the blended frames are also blended. It's hopeless.

  3. Hi manono,

Thanks for taking time and looking at the clip. Yes, I did sort of want to remove the blending, and have seen it done with VCD-like files:

This case is tougher because no original frames are present, the blends are always in stretches.

To answer my own question regarding the blending, I would say it was a cheap way to adjust framerate without having to adjust the audio.
