    Hi all,

I have a 5 videos from an ipod someone has sent me. Each video is split into 33 files at around 15MB each with a numbered extension e.g. myvideo.m4v.001, myvideo.m4v.002 etc
myvideo.m4v.001 can be renamed to myvideo.mp4 and plays in Quicktime. I tried to join the split files into one m4v using WinRar, but this didn't detect an archive. Then I tried 001 File Joiner & Splitter (Version: V4.0.5.0) which did create a single 662MB m4v file. I renamed this to mp4 and loaded into Quicktime. The video played the the point where 001 ended and 002 begins and then froze.

Is there a package out there that will reconstruct a split archive (ipod) to a format that will play in Windows?

    Many thanks.

Try avidemux, open the joined .mp4/m4v and see if it can read the entire clip, save as a new mp4(choose video->copy and audio->copy and it wont be converted). If it doesn't read the entire clip then try open the first .001 and see if you can append the rest of the files and save a new mp4.

You can also play m4v/mp4 using vlc, smplayer, mpchc.

  3. other file splitter/joiners that might have been used are hjsplit or winace. i'd at least give hjsplit a try, it was popular in a certain crowd for awhile.

HJ-Split did the trick! I'd just about given up too. Thanks for all your help.
