    Hi,

I have an MKV file (8.3 GB). When I use MKVExtract, I get 2 files (.h264, ac3) which totals 8.3 GB.
If I use TsMuxer to extract and create a .m2ts file, the file is 8.7 GB.
    My questions are as follows:
    1. Why is the Tx Muxer output file larger than the 2 files extracted with MKVExtract?
    2. Is there any way to combine the 2 files(.h264,ac3) and maintain the 8.3 GB file size?
    3. Can you play an MKV file on Blu-ray player?

I do not want to lose video or audio quality.

    Thank,
    Gary

  2. 1) .m2ts container has larger overhead than .mkv

    2) not using .m2ts playable on blu-ray, you can if you keep .mkv or .mp4 container

    3) no, not on standard blu-ray players. You can with some media players e.g. popcorn hour, tvix, wd media player

Next time, just make your .m2ts the correct size the first time.

The overhead for the M2TS format is substantially higher that the overhead for MKV or MP4, hence the larger file sizes.

Remuxing into an MP4 container should retain the same quality and approx. the same file size as the MKV file.

To play back in a Bluray player you will need to either author as an AVCHD or M2ts. Both are likely to be larger than a DL DVD blank, so you will have to re-encode the video to make room for the required overheads.

If you have a PS3 then you can playback MP4 files.

Let this be a lesson to you about downloading files.
