  1. Hello, I recently bought a samsung bd-d2300 in order to be able to view mkv and divx files. the blu-ray player works awesome so far from the divx files and mkv files I have put on a disc. the way I do it is that I just write the mkv file to the disc as a data, so the player can read it, can anybody else let me know if they do it this way as well? and also as far as mkv files are concerned do they come with titles already inside them? or do you have to download them separately? and also is there such a thing as mkv files with a menu or chapters? like for example if you download a movie that is a blu-ray 720p rip.

No, mkvs has no menus or titles. You can put chapters in the mkv with for example mkvtoolnix. But I'm not sure if any blu-ray player supports it.

If you want all features just buy or rent your movies on blu-ray.

  3. MKV files may or may not have subtitles. Most players will display external subtitles if they're named with the same base name:

    My Favorite Movie.MKV
    My Favorite Movie.SRT

  4. oh okay perfect, I figured that it did not bring menus or chapters, but I wanted to make sure I was burning it correctly. On the other hand I did use that program the other day in order to mux subtitles into an MKV I had, and for some reason when I burnt the MKV to the dvd-r, the subtitles wouldn't show on the screen? I would even press the subtitle button on the remote control and the subtitles wouldnt show at all, any of you know hat the program might be? I followed a tutorial on youtube in reference to muxing the subtitles and I even named the .srt fle according to the MKV filename.

Basically it seems the Samsung player doesn't support MKV subtitles - check on the Samsung site for technical details of your player and what it supports. Simply because it says it supports MKV doesn't necessarily mean it will support chapters etc. Have you checked your processed file to make sure the chapters are there. Post a MediaInfo log to be sure.

  7. If the MKV file has subtitles mux'd in and the player doesn't play them, you can try demuxing them with MkvExtract.
