  1. First - this site is awesome - I not only appreciate all the information and How-To's - but the incredible contributions by the members and experts that truly make this site contain the wealth of knowledge it does.

I've been goofing around with VCD's for a while now - but I didn't have a purpose before (I do now) - so I'm trying to get into it and do it right.

I'm getting ready to rebuild my home LAN server. The hardware is an AMD K6-III, 512MB RAM, and I'm about to add a brand new Deskstar 40GB drive (to replace the bad system drive thats in there now).

My understanding from reading posts here and other places, is that it's best to have a computer dedicated to multimedia authoring (assuming you have the means to do so - and I do).

    Now to my question:

The system is currently Win2K Advanced server -- but I have to rebuild it from scratch.

Do I load up XP Professional, or reload W2K? Don't worry about my comment re: home lan server - it's intention is to have a place for my wife and I to back up files - I can do that with either - we don't care about domain/AD authentication or any thing like that.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. i would say stick with win2k. windows XP has lots of bugs that keep popping up and causing people trouble. wait till a service pack is released to correct the problems in XP before you consider it.
    peace out,
