    Hi

There has been hundreds of questions on conversion on this forum. But I would be grateful if you can also help me.

I have a Sony SR-100 HDD camcorder that records the video in mpeg2. Normally, it takes 1GB for 50 minutes of recording. I use the Standar Quality mode settings on the cam.

After the recording, I want to save the file in a lower size without losing much quality. To do this, I use Ulead VideoStudio 10. In VideoStudio, I convert the file to AVI using Xvid (I dont change any Xvid settings). The converted file is around 700MB, with not too good quality.

Sometimes, I have seen some DVD rips with 2 hours of video and the file size is only 700MB and the video quality is soooo good.

So my question is how can I convert my mpeg2 videos to a lower size and retain good quality???

I also upload my videos on web. Again, how can I convert my videos for web by retaining good quality video? I normally convert to WMV using Ulead Video Studio but the result is not so great.

I have also browsed through this list but not sure which is for me:

    Thanks for your time.

Actually, 2 hours in 700 MB doesn't look very good at all, especially when compared to the original source material.

AutoGK is a simple tool for converting Mpeg-2 to Xvid. Use Quality Encoding with a value of 75 % and a width of 720 pixels and the quality should be pretty good. The catch is that you can't predict the file size. On some videos it will be a lot smaller, and on others, not so much.
