  1. Hello!

I am trying to use my old (not THAT old) computer to see DVD's.
    It is WinXP.
Everything goes fine, except when a film contains only the AC3 5.1 (surround) soundtrack.
I can clearly her the music and sound effects, but the dialog is gone!

It is of course because my computer has only two speakers, and therefore needs normal stereo.

But how can I get around this?

I have tried VLC media player, Nero Player, AC3Filter and AC3ACM - nothing works on this computer.
The "funny" thing is, that my new computer, running Windows Vista, works fine! It didn't from the beginning, but using them AC3-filters and so on made the trick.
This doesn't help me, because I need this to work on the old one.

    Sincerely/Best Regards
    Perro

Have you changed the ac3filter settings to output stereo mode? And then be sure that AC3 filter is used when you play. I use Media Player Classic and under Play->Filters it should be listed after you opened and playing the dvd.

And if using ffmpeg for audio, turn on the mixer option & select stero output there.

Hey Baldrick, thanks for the reply.

    I have the following decoders:
    Realtek HD Audio Output
    Video Renderer
    AC3Filter
    MPEG-2 Video Decoder
    AC3 Audio Decoder
    DVD Navigator

This is the annoying thing: In the filters is "AC3 Audio Decoder" present, and the settings is this:
    PCM 16
    AC3 Decoder Settings:
    Decode to speakers: Stereo
    DTS Decoder Settings:
    Decode to speakers: Stereo

The other filters has the same settings: Everywhere it is possible to tell the machine that there is only two speakers (and please downmix), it is set!

I can not figure out, what else there is to do? I mean, this should work!
I am beginning to suspect there is something wrong with my computer, but I can't figure out what.
It is not the soundcard, because all other kinds of sound comes through. I.e. youtube, mp3-files, etc.

    Any suggestions?

Hi TJohns, Thanks for the suggestion.

However, when trying to download something, I get a file ending on ".7z", and windows don't know what it is (?)
    How do I use it?
