How to convert video to be compatible with iPod

First off, can anyone tell me what formats will play in Qucktime? secondly, I've followed the instructions on how to format video into iPod friendly format. After the conversion, the video will play but, there's no sound. Lastly, can .wmv be converted to play on an iPod? Oh, by the way, I have an iPod classic 120G. If that makes any difference. Thanks for any help.

Download and install the appropriate .net libraries from Microsoft.
