You'll need to be more specific. What type of file format was it recorded to? Wmv? avi? Mpg? dvr-ms?

You can use gspot or avicodec to identify the file type.

As far as cutting programs the one I like for mpeg based file types is mpg2cut2. It is very straight forward and good and free.

There are a quite a few other choices available in the tools section as well - https://www.videohelp.com/tools

Oh and welcome to the forum.

I'd try AVIDeMux. It can cut (on I frames) just about any format FFDShow can handle.

AVIDemux can cut on any frame, and on some formats do so without a total re-render.

However I would like to clarify - are you simply cutting it into 4 minute chunks, or do you want to cut it by clip ?

What do you want to do with these clips ?

The short answer is that there is no simple way to do this, other than manually. What is the best way is up to what output you want. The PS3 will happily accept H264, which means you can either encode to the same quality as Xvid/Divx in a smaller filesize, or encode to a higher quality in the same filesize.

AVIDemux is a good any any for doing this.

Again, it would be interesting to know what format the source is. I am guessing mpg. If possible, I would cut using a smart renderer, saving the clips as mpg files (assuming that is what the source is) until they are all done. This would be the most painless way to edit. Once done, I would use Xvid4PSP to convert the files to .mp4 with the PS3 profile. You can batch convert, so you can just set up a queue with all the clips in it, and let it encode them all until it is done.

For dvr-ms you can convert to mpg2 and leave it as it is and the ps3 will play them.

I can't think of a standalone app that will strip the protection at the moment - other than directshowdump but I haven't had a 100% success rate with that on all dvr-ms files.

I do own Tmpgenc Dvd Author 2 and it has the ability to turn dvr-ms files into mpg files.

I'm sure there are other apps I can't just can't think of them right now.

    Check here for more options:

search by dvr-ms and you'll find more.

But as I said you can keep them as mpeg2 and the ps3 will play them. Of course you'll need to convert them to a more compressed form like divx or xvid if you want to save space. But you don't have to convert if you just want to leave them as a mpg2 .mpg file.
