    Hello!

    I have an AVI that uses the XVID codec and i just wanted to know if there was a way to cut out a certain portion of the AVI out, what i mean is, the portion i want to cut out i don't want to use, i want to use what is left of the AVI when i cut that park out, so is there any way to do that?

    Sure, with VirtualDub. Just select the part you want by using the keyframe keys and mark the cuts with the mark in and mark out keys, then click 'Edit>Cut'. Then save out as a 'Direct stream copy'.

    If you need to cut between keyframes, you will need to re-encode. That's a Xvid limitation. Xvid keyframes are about 300 frames apart by default. That's one reason Xvid is a poor format for editing.

    You can try the newest VD which can cut anywhere, then just re-encodes at the cut points. When you are done with the cuts, try saving in 'Fast recompress' or 'Normal recompress' mode. I believe that will work with new 'smart rendering' feature if it's checked. 'Direct stream copy' apparently won't work in this mode. You do have to have the same codec as the original file installed, configured the same. I haven't used that feature very much, so my info may not be entirely correct.

    AVI Demux can also do smart rendering for this type of edit. Have a look if Virtualdub gives you grief.
