PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us more information.

Do you see the windows desktop on your tv? Have you tried change any display driver settings like dual or clone view?
What blu-ray software player are you using?
Do you get any error message playing the blu-ray?
    etc...

And this is not any Blu-ray backup problem. Moving you.

It sounds like HDCP protection(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdcp ). You could try install anydvd hd(trial available) and it will remove the hdcp. You could also try change display settings so the hdmi is the primary display or is the only output(no dual or clone mode) and see if it make any difference.

Not all laptops support playing while closed but it's not possible since you need AnyDVD running,as for the overscan see if your tv has a "Just Scan" or "1:1 Pixel" setting.

Usually you can go under your screen saver settings and then power management and adjust what your computer does when you close your laptop (on XP Pro it is the Advanced Tab under Power Options). There is a setting there "When I close the lid of my portable computer:" and my options are Do Nothing, Stand By or Hibernate. You want to set it to Do Nothing. This should allow you to run your laptop with the lid closed and use your TV as monitor. You will need an external keyboard and mouse.
