What's the best Open Source equivalent to Nero?

I simply need to write files to a disc
(I've got ImgBurn, which does an excellent job for what it does)

Nero: not too keen on, since the last version I installed on another machine installed 1001 extras that I really didn't need or want

(I did go through the manual selection for what to install - not sure where I went wrong!)

I've never heard of a good open source equivalent
I've had a look SourgeFroge.net, but find it hard to find anything relevant

    Thanks

    OM

You've got ImgBurn, so I don't understand the question...

Well, I'd say that if you didn't already have it, ImgBurn.

    CDBurnerXP <- best Nero replacement
ImgBurn <- best for burn DVD-Video
BurnAware <- best for music CD

    All are free.

I love ImgBurn as much as the next person, but it's not the most friendly piece of software for certain tasks.

Then you are set. You don't need programs like Nero to "write files to a disc". But many Nero apps are quite useful, SoundTrax, WaveEditor, Recode, CD-DVD Speed, InfoTool, ImageDrive and CoverDesigner to name a few.

Nero has been described as a toy, but toys can be fun.

    My latest Nero playthings.

Maybe you'll find what you need here:

You should also give a try to the team "mkisofs + cdrecord"
