    Hello all,
I am having some difficulties using the TMPGEnc suite of programs. I have used them in the past without incident, but I am running into a problem I haven't run into before and I can't seem to solve!

I've got .avi files I converted to MPG using Xpress 4.0 I encoded using VBR Video, DVD Standard MPEG File, Dolby DIgital, 16:9

I then want to author a DVD using DVD Author 3. But when trying to load the rendered files I receive the following error: Could not open the video part of the file; Only the audio can be opened.

I have tried a variety of workaround, including trying to render the files as CBR; using the MPEG file output function, etc. But nothing is working!

    Any suggestions/solutions are appreciated, thanks!

Simple answer: load your AVI-files directly in DVD-author (instead of first converting them to mpeg with Xpress)

    Hope this'll solve your problem...

    Hi Lippy,
Thanks for the advice, and I've thought of this remedy as well. My only problem is the uncompressed avi files take up so much space on the hard drive (that rapidly I am running out of). I know external HD are cheap these days, but unfortunately I don't have the extra $$ to buy one right now. I was hoping for some sort of software fix.

What really bugs me is I even tried using the DVD source creator software, and I'm still getting the same error! What gives?

Do the files produced by Xpress play correctly?

You might also try demuxing and remuxing the mpg file. Sometimes, that will fix things to allow subsequent steps to proceed.

But you have these AVI sourcefiles stored somewhere, don't you?
That's why I suggested to import them directly into the DVD-author
without making a intermediate mpeg via Xpress.
