Hey everyone,
I was told by a friend of mine that you can recieve all these premium channels by buying a certain FTA reciever and hooking up a satellite dish. I would really like to know how this can be done.. I live in Canada and currently just have basic cable...but i would like to cancel my cable if i can get this working.
So what equipment do i need to get? I heard i have to get new firmware for the reciever every so often from some website..if anyone can tell me exactly how this is done, it would be greatly appreatiated..thanks!

Ask your friend. You won't get help here (or, at least, shouldn't) with stealing cable or satellite.

There are indeed boxes like the Samsung DTB-H260F which will receive both 8vsb and qam signals, but be advised that many cable companies scramble premium channels -- and they cannot be received. And they don't pick up ANY cable if you don't subscribe to cable. So, don't get too excited.

FTA is ku signals in the clear (no encryption), i personally like rtvn (retro tv network) & wstv (whitesprings tv)... getting these channels is completly legal & u need a 36 inch dish & a motor to get them... u can also get what are called "wild feeds" which usually are studio feeds for network (abc, cbs, nbc, etc) programming or sports... these shows (weekly series) are with no commercial interuptions (blank spots 10 to 15 seconds long)... & some of the channels are mpeg2.2 format (studio quality) but u need a pci card to get these
