I have a DVD-RW which i recorded from my DVD recorder. Of course, the recorder encoded the audio in AC3. I need to edit the DVD, to take parts out of it, and i have no software which will decode AC3. I need to first convert the audio to mp3, and THEN re-encode everything so i can put it back on DVD.

what's a good way to do this?

    thanks

You could use a dvd editor that supports ac3 like VideoRedo, Tmpgenc DVD Author, Mpeg Video Wizard.

Or if you want to convert the audio to mp3 or better wav lpcm you can use avidemux, open the first VTS_01_1.vob(1GB) from the DVD and it should open the entire DVD. Under video choose copy and under audio set it to wav lpcm. Save as a MPEG-PS and when saving save as video.mpg. You can now try edit the mpg file.
