  1. Hi there.
In my work, we use a custom program, for syncing subtitles with a video.
The program is like Subtitle workshop.
It was designed by a Greek guy to work on winXP.
And it works on WinXP without any kind of problem.

However, the developer died and he didn't had the time to make it work on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

The problem is that you can type, but when you open a video file, you can't sync the subtitles.

When you press the "in" button, the subtitles flashes once disappears.
When you press the "out" button, the subtitle again flashes and then disappear.

I have try this program in more than 20 PCs.
it happened to work, only in one PC that uses windows 7.

Feel free to suggest me things to try.
I believe that there is a problem with directX.

I can send you with wetransfer a copy of the program.

Thanks in advance for your time.

  2. If you need to move to Windows 7, then the obvious option would be to abandon the dead custom software and move to something that actually works. I haven't used Subtitle Workshop on Win 7, though I'm sure there are some that do.

Nobody knows what problems your program might have because nobody else uses it. You might get a workable guess, good luck. If you have any details, such as what programming language was used, do you have the source code, was it based on an existing program, what specific custom features were created, that might help. It might not.

Your option would be to pay somebody else to write a new custom program that works on Win 7, and be prepared to repeat this process several times over the next few years.

    Why re-invent the wheel?

I presume you already tried running the program in using XP compatibility mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-older-programs-run#1TC=windows-7

Have you tried running the program with Windows 7 Professional using XP mode virtualization? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

Yes, Subtitle Workshop runs fine on Win7. Both 32 and 64-bit.

  5. First, I would like to thank all of you for your help.
I work (for mor than 20 years) in a company who subtitles films for the cinema and the TV Stations in Greece.

Of course, many persons who translates films, uses Subtitle Workshop.

However, there is a problem with the in-out button.
The default settings for Workshop is a stupid combination of buttons. But you can't "recall" the "in".

    In our program, you can!
I have create a shortcut file (regarding the buttons) that makes Subtitle Workshop's button to work, like our custom program (called SBuilder). But it is not the same.

I will try in a while the XP compatibility mode and I will let you know!
