Hey everyone. been looking around the site for awhile now and couldnt really find what I was looking for.
All I want it to rip a dvd movie and then put it on to a dvd so it has the menu and extras etc...
Ive been using handbrake just to rip as a mp4 for my ipod, but that doesnt have a menu.
would the best, easiest, and cheapest way of just copying the dvd to a different one? Thanks

DVDFAb decrypter and rip to an iso. Burn it with Imgburn. If it's too big then shrink the iso with DVD Shrink first.
-
DVDFabHDDecrypter, rip full disc to ISO image.
ImgBurn, burn ISO to dual-layer DVD blank.
OR
Rip full disc to files with DVDFabHDDecrypter, make the full disc fit to single-layer blank using DVDRebuilder (best) or DVDShrink (quicker), then burn with ImgBurn using "build" mode.
However, dispensing with menus and extras (e.g. DVDShrink in reauthor mode) would leave more room on a single-layer DVDR for video, hence better quality. Your choice.
Good luck.
[EDIT] Jeez, Baldrick must live here, beat me again. :PPull! Bang! Darn! -
i forgot to mention its on a mac! does this change anything or use the same programs?
-
Yes that does change things. You can still use those programs but you will need wine for mac installed.
If you want a native mac solution I can't help you but there is a mac forum here that has users that can help with that. Perhaps you could ask Baldrick to move this thread to the mac forum for you.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again") -
thanks for youe help. ill see what the mac section has to say!
thanks again -
No problem. I will say that I have used the above programs in linux with wine and they performed just as well as they do in windows.
But I can understand if you just want a mac native soultion.
Good luck.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again") -
Apps for doing this on Macs are relatively few in number, so you're best off if you can dual-boot and use Windows-based tools.
If you do want to stick with native Mac apps, then the canonical ones are Mac The Ripper (MTR) to do the ripping, and DVD2OneX (DTOX) to do any shrinking necessary. The free version of MTR is unable to handle modern copy protection schemes, but will handle most older discs fine. For a small donation, you can get an updated version of MTR that will handle pretty much anything. DTOX is not free. -
