  1. Haven't done this myself and just wanted to see if anyone else has.
A friend wants a copy of one of my external HD that's full of data he's after.
    I'm on a Mac, (OS 10.5.5), and he's on a PC.

Plugging my external HD into his PC is simple enough, no probs there.
But the HD's are formatted differently.

Will this just work, or will he need some special software to read a Mac formated HD?

Any advise on the question welcome.
    Many Thanks.

If he has an external HD, format it as FAT32, not NTFS. Then you may plug it into your Mac and copy everything over to it. The only problem will be if any of your data files are larger than 4GB; FAT will choke on 4GB+ files.

  5. If you do want to go rumplestiltskin's route and have files >4GB you could use Paragon's commercial app or the slower but otherwise perfectly acceptable free solution, NTFS-3G.

  7. Thanks everybody.

I'll pass all this along to my friend and let him decide what he wants to do.
