what would cause an occasional interlaced frame after normal ivtc has already been performed when encoding to xvid?

  2. Lots of things. Maybe it's not a candidate for IVTC. Got a small sample of the source that when IVTC'd shows the problem?

  4. None of the automated IVTC algorithms is perfect. They all allow occasional interlaced and duplicate frames through. And as manono pointed out, some video simply can't be perfectly IVTC'd anyway. For example, many videos are edited after being telecined. They can contain orphaned fields. Since there is no field with the other half of the frame the entire frame can't be restored.
