Is there any DVD Authoring Software very similar to TMPGenc that doesn't add black borders to the DVD output when the aspect ratio is 16/9? I have never understood why TMPGenc 1.5 adds borders to my MPEG-2 files. I can drop the same MPEG-2 files into ConvertXToDVD and it will not have borders.

All free/non-free Software suggestions are welcomed. I just need to accept MPEG-2 files, such as the the ones CCE, Quenc and HCenc spit out.

Tmpgenc 1.5? tmpgenc dvd author 1.5 can't reconvert the video so it can't add any black borders.

  3. Muxman's free and won't reencode. Also DVDAuthorGUI and GUI4DVDAuthor.

I wonder what is going on then.

The same exact files authored with ConvertX will have no borders but when I do it with TMPGenc, it has them. I observed this as recently as last night.

  5. What do you mean by black borders, is it all around, top and bottom or to the sides? The only problem I've ever had with TDA and aspect ratio resulted in squished video. That was quickly fixed with IFOedit; just had to set the A/R flag to letterbox. Are your MPGs 720x480? An easy solution would be to simply convert your MPGs with ConvertXToDVD, then import the DVD video in TDA.

I encode with HCenc, Quenc or CCE and they are always 720x480. When the encode with A/R 4/3, it fills the entire screen when I author with TDA but if I encode with A/R 16/9, there is a border at the top and bottom of the screen.

I only like to use ConvertX to make DVDs for MKVs and files with Subtitles. Everything else, I like to use the aforementioned encoders and then use TDA.

I am going to try Muxman when I get home, but I am unsure if it can make menus. I am also going to try to use the others manono mentioned as well.

I wonder if TDA 1.5 is changing the A/R to 4/3?

    Plasma TV.

And yes, the A/R for the TV is set to 16/9.

  9. The free version of Muxman doesn't make menus, although you can test with a simple mux to see if the M2V is DVD compliant and if there are any black borders in the video. My guess is that they're already there. Just a guess.

The other 2 I mentioned can help you make menus, although you'll have to supply the BMPs or M2Vs for the menus.
