I have had a new hard drive installed so I have been downloading the Microsoft updates for WINDOWS. Usually it is no problem.
But now the downloaded updates refuse to install into my PC. What do I do?

If you search with Google there are sites that can help. There are files that may need to be re-registered. I am at home and don't have the list at hand, sorry.

There is also a help section on www.microsoft.com about this problem that has fixes. I'd try this first. It is actually a fairly common problem if a WinXP SP2 disc is used to do a repair install.

 Good Luck

	Download and use Dial-a-fix.
This little piece of software will automate the process of fixing Windows Updates.

	Hello,
 WU/WUAU

open up dial-a-fix. Tick the box that says WU/WUAU. click the button "GO" on the bottom of the program. DON'T DO FLUSH SOFTWAREDISTRIBUTION. That is another option that we might not need in your case. Once dial-a-fix is finished. Go ahead and reboot and try and reinstall your updates.

Let us know of your progress.

	Hello.
I did just what you said. then I rebooted.

As if by magic, the seventeen (17) Microsoft XP & Microsoft Office 2007 upgrades installed....and smoothly, too.

I rebooted, again. The computer ran great with no error messages. Thanks! Great!

Hang on to Dial-a-fix. You may very well have the same issue again. I've got a PC at work that I have to run Dial-a-fix on every month. WU keeps breaking and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Are any error messages given? Once I fixed this problem when it was encountered by going to Microsoft site and doing a search for the exact error message given.
-
It does leave some sort of error in the event log if I'm not mistaken. It wasn't easy to find anything on MS website based on those messages though.
-
In the instance I had it showed error message on PC screen such as "Access is denied. Updates not completely installed." I had to uninstall the incomplete updates install and find cause via search for error message on MS site. I suspect it'll be harder to determine cause if you aren't getting similar messages to popup.
