I followed the guide for DivX to SVCD conversion. I used a bitrate of 922 (CBR) so 87 minutes would fit on a 74min CDRW. When I play it back in my DVD player it is very blocky. Is this bitrate too low? Is there a way to put it on 1 74m CD and keep the quality?

If using tmpgenc, check under settings and try turning the motion seach quality up. If it is up all the way you may need to find a better source file, i heard divx doesn't always look the best after converted to mpeg2. After that you may just to a higher bitrate.

If you are trying for an SVCD at 480x480 there is no way a bitrate less than 1800 is going to look alright. The SVCD standard calls for about 45min on a CD, and if you use 2 pass VBR you can get a decent result at about 55min per CD with the audio bitrate lowered to about 160.
Check out the bitrate calc in the tools in the section.
