  1. If i want to convert an avi file to divx with virtualdub, how do i know the data rate?
Also, how can i reduce e.g. an avi file of 20Megs to a divx file of only 10(it's only an example) ?

    Thanks

  2. haha... at a glance i thought your post said "Divx : date rape"

now whats sicker... that i thought thats what it said... or that i looked at it anyway.

but anyway... with data rate, do you mean bitrate?

and with divx it will cmpress the file a lot... the 20 meg file i asume is just uncommpressed aiv cause you didnt specify otherwise, it should shrink the file cuite a bit... if you download a bitrate calculator you can tell what bitrate you need to set it to to get the desired file size.

  3. yeah,
but how can i compress that file of 20Megs, to divx, without losing too much quality? If i set the bitrate lees than 910kbps, then the divx file lost a lot of quality.

  4. you cant... the only way to lower the file size is to lower the bitrate. unless there is some magic wand i havnt found out about.
