  1. This is just a warning to people using Picasa version 3 beta to manage digital photos. This version of Picasa causes hybernation problems. In my case my power management scheme never contained a hybernation option, but after installing Picasa the computer started hybernating after passing to screen saver. What is worse the computer never woke up. It was always necessary to switch off the machine and then switch on. You can imagine the hassle caused by this. I uninstalled Picasa and everything became normal. I do not know why it does that, but I hope this message will help a good number of people having this very annoying situation.

I had this same problem. I wonder if your system is using the Picasa my photos screensaver? I have heard that this screen saver caused hibernation problems just as you described.

  3. You are right my system was using the Picasa screen saver. In fact it was not my choice. After the installation I saw that the screen saver was replaced by Picasa's. It may well be that this screen saver was creating the problem. To be on the safe side I uninstalled the whole product. In any case the product was partially satisfying my requirements. So by uninstalling it I did not lose anything as functionality, but got my desktop properly working as before.

  4. Further to my message on Picasa version 3 causing hibernation problems, I think I should put down a few words about Picasa. This product is good if you have properly structured and organized your folders keeping the images. For browsing and finding images, building slide shows, presenting images the product is OK and does the job. But if you need software that will also help you to organize, structure and manage image folders then Picasa software is not necessarily the right choice. For this reason I uninstalled this software and cured the hibernation disease of my desktop.

  6. Well I would say you are partially right. However do not forget that Google's signature is behind this software. Beta version does not mean that you publish products to millions on this planet without testing even the most visible issues like putting your own screen saver in place of the one chosen by the user.
