Hi..I have 2 Avi xvid files (part one and two _699mb each) and trying to put on a stand alone DVD disk for a friend...As part one has about 4 minutes of excess blank at its end I would like to edit this before joining to part two but so far have been unable to do so.
..As for converting..I have tryed various programs like virtual dub etc...reading the guides and my best result was converting the xvid to mpg and then converting to DVD using AVS Converter...but I lost quality So I would like to try convertxtodvd on the two original files and put in chapters etc but it gives me an "exception raised in conversion Thread with message "external exception C1000001D" in its log....when I try a trial convert.
At a guess I think my problems relate to the audio on my 2 files ..I note Vdub takes exception to VBR....I would welcome any tips here ..Thanks HK.

What I would do is this
1. Open the first part in the latest AVI Demux. If asked to create a time map say Yes.
2. Mark the end of the footage through to the end of the blank section, and hit Del to remove it.
3. File->Append the second avi file to create a single video. Do a quick test play in AVI Demux to make sure you still have audio sync.
4. With Video and Audio set to Copy, save a new, complete avi file. If prompted to use Smart Encoding say yes, and set the quantiser to 2. Remember to add the .avi extension to the file name.
5. Test play the new file, then encode to DVD using any tool you feel comfortable with.Read my blog here.

Hi gunsl1nger..Many Thanks I really appreciate your help..Now Re Avidemux...I used Key Frame to select the Edited end and I just could not get rid of a few frames that annoy me ??..I wonder if it will make too much difference if I do not use key frame and just select an end by frames...
Now Avidemux also discovered deficiences with the file and it corrected these so I loaded the second avi file into it and corrected it and saved...Maybe this has been my problem as Vdub certainly objected to the Variable Rate Audio and Avidemux found something wrong and corrected it....So now to convert it ....I did a trial last night using DVD Flick and I was surprised by the quality, settings etc although I did get a problem near the end of its converting (when making an LBA file) and am now trying to find the problem via their forum...Once again Many Thanks HK. -
Hi..I have found a problem...Whoever ripped the original DVD made file 1 size 640 x 480 and file 2 size 720 x592 .....Although I checked both codecs etc with Gspot I missed the size difference..and when I tryed to append files using Avidemux I was immediately notified of this....So now I will have to resize one so would welcome program info which would do this on an Avi Xvid file ...Thanks HK

You are back to having to do it in two parts. Trim part one as described above, but don't append part two. Save part one. Load part two, resize it, then save it using a suitable compression to minimise damage. If you have space, use huffuy.
Finally, build the DVD with DVD Flick. Put both parts in the same title and you can get seamless playback.Read my blog here.

Well I have tryed..After finally finding filters I set resize to 640 x 480 ...OK'ed and saved but then checking with Gspot it is not resizing so obviously I am doing something wrong ..I have tryed to figure out what it is but am at a loss what it is....Heres procedure I used ..I loaded the avi, opened filters under Video and in Video Filter Manager selected Transform/Resize ..set to 640 x 480 ..Closed and then saved...
Obviously I am not applying the resize filter properly ..I have done 6 saves and still not been successful so obviously I need somebody to give me instructions here...HK
