  1. Can anyone give me some pointers with this card before I take it back and get something else?? Does it use its own compression and no one elses to capture with? I capture an avi file in VirtualDub, and try to covert it to mpeg1 using TMPEGec and it doesn't convert the video no matter what i try. I have to convert it to a divx avi before TMPEGec with convert the video as well.

    Any pointers??

It uses a hardware MJPEG codec built into the card. You shouldn't need to convert it to another format first unless you don't have the card and drivers installed properly. You could also install a MJPEG codec and try that. Buit either way if you are dissatisfied with it - as I was - take it back and buy something better.

  3. I believe you have to use the MJPEG codex provided by Pinnacle. It is the only one I could get to work with the card. Studio 1.05 comes with the card and you have to render to AVI to get it out of Studio to encode with a good MPEG encoder like TMPGEnc. My experience with the card was mixed. I decided to get rid of the card and go with an external analog to digital converter (canopus unit). Now both my analog and digital captures go thru my firewire interface. This frees up some internal resources (IRQs) and the firewire is very stable. I am always changing things on my system and it was playing havoc with this card. Sometimes it worked and other times it just froze. I had no problem with the quality of the captures, however. Upgrade to Studio 1.06 from the Pinnacle site if you keep the card but don't upgrade to Studio 7. This was where all my problems started.

    Good luck
