    Hi All

Need bit of help, have some WMV clips and JPG´s and need them to be converted onto DVD so that you can either select to view Video or the pictures. Tried doing a search but couldnt seem to find anything so dont know if it can even be done.
If it can whats the best way to do this, simple menu for selection is ok so any input would be greatly appreciated as a friend is selling their house and they want to be able to send DVDs to possible buyers

    Thanks

A DVD-video that will work on DVD players? Then use a simple all-in-one dvd creator like tmpgenc dvd author 3, nerovision, ulead dvd moviefactory, windows dvd maker(included in vista) and add the wmv and jpgs and make a menu. I guess you can use the free dvd flick also but I don't know how much you can customize the menu and how it will work with still images.

Or do you just want a data dvd that will just work on computers?

    Hi Baldrick

Thanks for replying, am looking for it to be compatible with DVD players rather than just computers. Have got TMPGenc so will have a crack at that, use that for converting the WMV before but didnt know if it would accept JPG. Will give it a bash.

    Cheers

  4. DVD slideshow GUI (free) can make a mpg/m2v/ac3 slideshow out of your jps(like a ton of other slideshow apps, check the tools section).

One thing DSG can do, which might be useful for you is to export to .gfd(Gui for dvdauthor). When you load the resulting .gfd file in Gui for dvdauthor (free) menus will allready be set up with one main menu with buttons for a slideshow video, chapters and one menu pr. photo with buttons to move back and forth. If you don't need the slideshow video and the chapterpoints - you can just delete them. And if you get the wmv files converted to mpg/m2v/ac3 you can add them very easy to GFD. Just make sure that they got the rigth size and fps(PAL: 720x576 25 fps).

On the DSG homepage there is a video with the GFD menu functions and there is even a video tutorial on how to make the export and setting GFD up..

I want to make a DVD slideshow from jpg photos & just found this thread. I looked at the DVD Slideshow GUI link and also viewed the flash tutorial. But I'm not sure how this program ties in with some of the other mentioned programs, such as dvdauthor.

I am not sure what the function of dvdauthor would be since it appears DVD Slideshow GUI is a stand alone program. Does dvdauthor basically add additional functions?

When I add the jpg photos, does DVD Slideshow GUI keep these original jpgs in a separate directory on the DVD in addition to creating a mpg2 video file? IOW will the burned DVD-R have both a video for viewing on a TV and also separate jpgs that can be viewed on a computer or printed?

    Thank you in advance,
    Mike

  6. DSG will not add the original jpgs only video. However if you export as dvd folders(VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS) you'll get an instant playing dvd video and besides these files you can add a folder to the dvd with you original jpgs. I think it will behave as a normal dvd. And if you throw it in a computer you can view your original jpgs. But test it on a RW first.

BTW. you'll get a nifty slideshow dvd with menus, if you export to .gfd and open that file in GUI for dvdauthor. GFD can also export to dvd folders and you can do the same thing - adding an extra folder with your original jpgs when you burn it.

Check out the DSG RC2 from the DSG programming threat, it's a major inprovement to the previous versions.

Let me know how it works out.

(Don't worry about Dvdauthor - DSG or GFD will handle that)

Hey guys thanks for all the tips, i used TMPGenc and got some good results. Had a little menu at beginning with 2 options Video or Slideshow. Slideshow looks good with the random changes and that.
    Again thanks for the replies

    tin2tin,

Thanks for the reply. What is "the DSG RC2 from the DSG programming threat, it's a major inprovement to the previous versions"? DSG RC2 does not come up when Googled, other than your message.

    Update -
I found it when searching for the whole name. I found version .77RC, but when I click on to download it takes me to version 0.86D, and no mention of RC2. And 0.86D is on the link that you provided. Is .77RC newer/better than 0.86D? If so, where do I get it?

    Update #2 -
I continued searching & think I answered my own question. I found DVDsGUI0899RC2.exe in your DVD slideshow GUI topic. I d/l it and will give it a try when I'm awake.

I decided to forge ahead tonight and installed DVDsGUI0899RC2.exe and ImgBurn. I added 32 jpg photos & burned to a DVD-R.

It plays on my PC using PowerDVD & Windows Media Player.

VideoReDo, which I use for editing TV programs, only plays the first image.

My stand alone DVD player/recorded gives me a message the disc is not compatible.

    Any suggestions?

Update - I found the problem, I burned a PAL format DVD. I did see the 720 x 576 pixels come up and made a note to find out what that was about. Well now I know. Burning a NTSC DVD-R now works.

Under "Settings" I clicked off the Safe Area. The preview then showed the image filling the screen from top to bottom. But when played for display on my TV, the disc I burned still shows quite a bit of background above & below the picture. How do I reduce this to zero or almost zero?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll have to add a slight zoom with the animation function, with a keyframe at the beginning and at the end of the duration of the slide, but you'll loose a bit of the sides of the image...

My TV is 16:9 and my jpgs are 4:3, so I have more room on the sides than I do on the top & bottom. I realize you are concerned about overscan, but when displayed on my HDTV there is more than 1.5" of background showing above & below the picture and about 3" on each side (plus the black pillar bars). I have a 42" HDTV and loosing the 3" in vertical picture size, and approximately 4" in width, is significant.

When doing a preview there is no background showing (safe area un-checked) above & below the picture. But the finished DVD-R shows a large amount. I would like to confirm that is normal and that I am not doing something wrong.

  12. Are the disabled safex and safey not zero'ed? If not then this is the reason. Try to check and uncheck it and that should zero them. There is a bug on loading those diasabled buttons. When they are disabled they should be zero.

The safex and safey are zero'ed and grayed out when I disable the safe area. And the saved first project also shows this.

I just did a second project before reading your last message and had manually changed the safex and safey to zero and the preview showed no top & bottom background. I burned this second project to DVD and the picture now fills the screen.

I may have saved that first project after I burned the DVD. So I went and burned it again & the picture now fills the screen.

Checking & unchecking must have done the trick as you mentioned. I did click on that box quite a few times and also played with the safex and safey settings, but that may have been after I burned the first project.

    Thanks for all your help,
    Mike
